Video: Feedback on snatch technique

Hi,

After watching your video, the first thing I noticed was that you have the strength to power snatch 90kg (with some changes to your technique).  Maybe consider this when you snatch:

1.  Start is important.  You need to get over the bar more and tighen so you feel your weight on the balls of your feel.  Also, tighten your upper back so your shoulders don't sag.  Try to feel your romboids and lats flexing.

2.  You look strong when your catch the weight, but if you aren't comfortable holding the bar over head, try drop snatches.  These are not so easy to do properly so you may need to read into them. have someone show you how to do these.

Good luck.

You need to develop more speed under the bar.  You are getting a relatively good pull on the bar and on the video you are catching the weight relatively high but taking a long time (in Olympic Weightlifting terms) getting into the final full squat position.  This means at heavier weights you will be able to pull it high enough but not have the speed to get under quickly enough.

I found all of the following helped with timing and speed under the bar:

(1) Hang snatches

(2) Snatches from the dead position

(3) Performing High, medium and low snatches in eash set of 3 reps.  Pull one to a high snatch.  One (medium) to where the thigh is parallel to the ground to catch the weight and the third (low) pull the bar high enough to just get into a full squat snatch

1. biggest fault is you're pulling with your arms and it's killing your second pull.

2. Your grip is too narrow you need to get that bar into your lap.

3. Start the first pull with your weight back at least mid-foot.

4.Watch Yoto Yotov 95-99 comp tapes

Remember practice doesn't make perfect unless you practice perfect.

Practice makes permanent, so perfect your technique. Don't worry about
how heavy you lift for now.

Pete: Yep, he does. He's one of the lifters based in UL. BTW, this might be a good place to ask about competittions in the Arkansas area.

Don: You're a gent as always, you hit the nail on the head (IMHO).

Thanks Harry, the checks in the mail. LOL

I'd have to agree with  Pete, Richard, and Chris's comments
and insights to the most part also.
