When this photo of John Grimek appeared in Mark Berry's Physical Training Notes in June of 1936 Jack Sampson, Jr. used this as a model to draw the front cover of Super Physique (Vol. 1 No. 1 of Iron Man-August 1936).
Peary Rader felt that Mark Berry's The Strongman was the best magazine published during that era. Following in Berry's footsteps, Rader pushed the benefits of the squat as an exercise in the pages of Iron Man. Early issues of IM are similar to Berry's The Strongman. Through the decades Peary Rader continued to publish articles regarding the squat as an exercise to gain muscular size and strength.
Rader had successfully gained weight through a squat program after reading of the progress that Joseph Curtis Hise and John Grimek made as students of MHB.
Attached is the photo of John Grimek that appeared in the June 1936 issue of Physical Training Notes

I was told that an 1983 issue of Iron Man had a article about Tim Ferguson (AUS) doing a 380 lbs chinup in it, I was wondering if you know the exact issue this might have been in. The photo should look like this it was witnessed by Peary Rader and put in his magazine.
Dale harder of strength and speed, said he lists Tim Ferguson as a world record for weighted chin. This Saturday I'm going to do 390 lbs total weighted pull-up to beat his record. I was looking for more information about this photo.
Thanks!
