Aimee Anaya Qualifies for U.S. Pan Am Games Team
By Ruth Marvin Webster

Fallbrook resident Aimee Anaya just returned from the USA Weightlifting national championships in Schaumburg, Ill., where she won the gold in her division.

"I am now the national champion, beating Olympian Cara Heads," exclaimed Anaya in a recent e-mail to us. Particularly gratifying, she said, was beating the former Olympian in the women's 69-kilo or 152-pound division.

"It's amazing to be a national champion," said Anaya to The Associated Press after her win. "It's even more motivational and inspirational to me to be national champion next to Cara Heads."

The championships are the primary qualifier for the U.S. teams for the Pan-American Games and the world championships this summer. Anaya trains with Bonsall resident and senior international coach with USA Weightlifting, Mike Burgener.

Anaya was featured in a North County Times story called "Bar Belle" in the Life section April 24. It can be seen at: http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2007/04/21/lifeandtimes/12_68_474_14_07.txt

Hi!
just to clarify, no such thing happened. I certainly never told a paper that it was gratifying to beat cara nor did I ever say I made a pan am team.
in fact, this is the first I have even heard about this article. I did not know it even came out in our paper until I just saw it on here.

I did interview with the associated press at Nationals, and the comment printed by them was correct, lifting with Cara was an honor and very motivating for me.

Aimee,

Unfortuantely that type of thing seems to happen a lot with newspapers reporting on weightlifters and weightlifting events.  Congratulations on your performance.  You did awesome!
